#67 The Belt

I have this old belt.

It’s dark brown and the leather is worn and shiny. The buckle is steel, untarnished but scraped in many places.

It was originally my grandfathers. He bought it in 1912, when he was twenty-four. He gave it to my dad, for his fortieth birthday in 1962. My dad gave it to me for my fortieth birthday.

For the last thirteen years I’ve worn this belt using the same belt notch. When it starts to feel a bit tight, I know I need to work out a bit more and watch my diet.

Today, it broke.
