#3 Sweet Poisons

It’s incredibly smoky in here. The pianist in the corner is playing a melancholy dirge and singing in the voice of someone who may have known happiness once, but has long since forgotten how it feels.

If a movie were ever to be filmed here it would be in black and white.

I light a cigarette and suck the thick acrid smoke into my lungs. I soothe the burning sensation in my throat with a sip of champagne.
Since she left me, I’ve been smoking and drinking heavily. This is where we met and it’s where I shall die…
