Alice touched the lighter to the short fuse and stepped back as it fizzled its way towards the base of the rocket. She put an arm around the shoulders of the twins and together they watched the rocket shoot into the sky and explode in a thousand points of light. All three of them simultaneously made cooing sounds of appreciation.
A world away and IED exploded beneath the wheels of an armoured personnel carrier. It had been the tenth attack that day and while no one was killed, several of the soldiers aboard were injured, including Alice’s husband, the twins father.
